DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE JOSEPH RUGGIERO
DEMANDS STEINHAUS REMOVE FALSE TELEVISION COMMERCIAL
(November 1, 2007, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590)

Wappinger Town Supervisor and Democratic candidate for County Executive Joseph Ruggiero today demanded that his opponent immediately remove his most recent television commercial claiming that Ruggiero opposed funding for Dutchess Community College from the air-waves.

"This commercial is nothing more than a bold-faced lie perpetrated by a beleaguered incumbent desperately trying to hang on to his office at all costs, including the cost of telling the truth. Unless Mr. Steinhaus presents evidence — a statement, a press clipping, a television clip, or anything else of substance — that demonstrates the truth of his claim immediately, I demand he ask his handlers remove this scurrilous spot from the media," Ruggiero said. "My attorney is presently drafting a letter to the management of the two cable networks that are broadcasting this ad which is a reckless disregard for the truth and is done with malice demanding that they remove it until Mr. Steinhaus presents proof of its veracity. I am confident that Mr. Steinhaus will fail to do so because no such evidence exists." Ruggiero continued "I am a proud graduate of Dutchess Community College and a former Student Senator. As an Alumnus of the College I am proud of all that it has accomplished over it's fifty year history. For Mr. Steinhaus to make such a claim demonstrates not only his desperation but a reckless disregard for the truth that I have not seen before in my fourteen years as a public servant in Dutchess County."
