DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR COUNTY EXECUTIVE JOSEPH RUGGIERO
RESPONDS TO STEINHAUS' RAIL TRAIL STATEMENTS

Wappinger Town Supervisor and Democratic candidate for County Executive Joseph Ruggiero responded to a mailing and television commercial distributed by the Steinhaus campaign, which misrepresents his support of the Dutchess County Rail Trail.

"This commercial is nothing more than a bold-faced lie perpetrated by a beleaguered incumbent desperately trying to hang on to his office at all costs, including the cost of telling the truth," Ruggiero said. "As Wappinger Supervisor, I have no authority to vote on the funding of the Rail Trail. I am a supporter and frequent user of the rail trail." "Proof of my support of the rail trial, can be found on the Dutchess County official website. There you will find a press release issued in 2005 by my opponent stating my support of this project."

The 2005 Steinhaus press release has a quote from Joseph Ruggiero stating: "The county Rail Trail will prove to be a great asset to our community. The Rail Trail system is not only a park for our people, but a symbol of how we are all linked together in this great community."

Joseph Ruggiero's attorney has contacted both Time Warner and Cablevision requesting that the commercial be removed from airing on grounds that it is a reckless disregard for the truth and is done with malice.
