TOWN OF WAPPINGER SUPERVISOR JOSEPH RUGGIERO
ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR DUTCHESS COUNTY EXECUTIVE

(Wappingers Falls NY, May 22, 2007)

Town of Wappinger Supervisor Joseph Ruggiero announced today his candidacy for County Executive. The announcement was held at Villa Borghese in the Town of Wappinger at 12:00pm.

Joseph Ruggiero has held elected office in Dutchess County since 1993. After serving four terms on the Town of Wappinger Town Council he was elected Supervisor of the Town of Wappinger in 2001. He is currently serving his third term as Supervisor and is the Chairman of the Dutchess County Democratic Committee.

Joseph Ruggiero hopes to bring his proven leadership skills to the office of County Executive. Ruggiero says he is "excited for the opportunity to get our county government working again." A proponent of environmental awareness and conservation, Ruggiero will propose new programs to protect open space and limit our impact on the environment of the Hudson Valley. He also hopes to improve the infrastructure of our towns and cities and promote new development and investment in our county's economy.

Ruggiero asked his supporters to imagine a new era for Dutchess County in his announcement speech today. "Now, it is time to make our county a better place to live. Imagine a county where the County Legislature and the County Executive work together. Imagine a county government that protects our drinking water, cooperates with our municipalities to control growth and provide affordable workforce and senior housing, works to improve the lives of families, and provides open and efficient management of our government. Imagine all the positive changes that together we can make for the people of our county."

Ruggiero invited the people assembled in Wappingers Falls to look with him to the future. "I ask you to join with me today on a journey through our towns, cities, and villages across this great county of ours, delivering a message of hope and renewal for the people of Dutchess County. I believe that Dutchess County has a bright future, and that, together, we will get county government working again and so we can reach for that New Horizon for our people."
