JOSEPH RUGGIERO REPORTS RECORD
FUNDRAISING IN FIRST PERIOD

(Poughkeepsie New York, July 17, 2007)

In his first campaign finance filing after becoming the declared Democratic candidate for County Executive, Ruggiero has reported a record $138,901 in contributions. This total for just the first period for financial disclosure is the highest tally any county-wide Democratic candidate has ever raised for an entire campaign cycle. It also shows Ruggiero outpacing his opponent, a 16 year incumbent.

This fundraising figure is a landmark for county Democrats, already doubling the record for any county-wide candidate including past County Executive candidates. Ruggiero has managed to accomplish this feat despite being declared for less than two months of the six month reporting period. This is an indicator of the tremendous momentum of Ruggiero's campaign.

Ruggiero announced his candidacy on May 22nd of this year, only giving him approximately two months before this first filing deadline known as the July periodic report. Even with this delayed start to fundraising Ruggiero bested his opponent who had since January 1st to raise funds during this first period. Ruggiero raised over $45,000 more than Steinhaus in this first quarter.
